Taiwan's Po-Hao Huang of the Victoria HarbourCats Stars in Postseason
The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Brian Sloan, are Taiwan third baseman Po-Hao Huang of the Victoria HarbourCats and UC Riverside sophomore pitcher Trenton Toplikar of the Corvallis Knights for the week of August 7-15.
This summer's final Pitcher of the Week was junior-to-be right-hander Trenton Toplikar of the West Coast League champion Corvallis Knights. Toplikar started two games at Goss Stadium in the postseason, tossing 7 solid innings in each outing to earn wins in both starts.
He faced Yakima Valley on Wednesday, August 9 and then came back to pitch the WCLCS finale last night vs. the Victoria HarbourCats. In total, he threw 14 innings; walking only two and striking out 8 while posting a 1.93 ERA. Corvallis won his starts against the Pippins 8-4 and Victoria 4-2.
During the regular season, Toplikar went 2-0 with a 5.06 ERA over 6 appearances and 5 starts. He only walked one batter in 26.2 innings pitched while striking out 26.
This past spring, Toplikar made 17 appearances and 2 starts for the Highlanders, going 2-3 while posting a 7.42 ERA.
Victoria's Po-Hao Huang came up clutch for the HarbourCats in the playoffs, as the left-handed hitter belted a homer and collected 5 RBI in Victoria's North Divisional Series clinching 11-5 win at Kelowna on Wednesday, August 9. Then this past Saturday night, Huang thrilled the HarbourCat faithful with a walk-off single to beat the Corvallis Knights 5-4.
For the week, Huang went 9-for-17 (.368) with a homer and 7 RBIs.
For the summer, Huang hit .280 over 100 regular-season at bats with 7 doubles, 1 homer and 13 RBIs.
