Senior-to-be Bend infielder West Tunnell of Baylor led the Elks to another winning week (5-1) as the left-handed hitter from Anthem, Arizona went 12-for-26 with 3 home runs, 8 runs scored, 8 RBIs and a .500 on base percentage. On the season, Tunnell is hitting .352 with 5 home runs, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 27 runs and 29 RBIs. This past spring as a junior, West hit .258 over 89 at bats with 5 doubles and 6 stolen bases for the Baylor Bears.
The Elks have posted a league-best 22-5 record and lead the South Division by 9.5 games.
Tunnell shared WCL Player of the Week honors for June 29-July 5 with Wenatchee pitcher Hunter Wells of Gonzaga.
Wells pitched 8 scoreless innings vs. Klamath Falls on July 4th to pick-up the win in the Sox 4-0 victory over the Gems. Wells allowed 4 hits and struck out 6 and improved his summer record to 4-0 over 5 starts while lowering his ERA to 1.11. The sophomore transfer from Lower Columbia College made 13 appearances and 5 starts this past spring at GU. The right-hander from Spokane, Washington went 1-4 with a 3.72 ERA over 36.1 innings pitched for the Bulldogs.
Over five weeks of play, four Bend players have earned Player of the Week honors including Tunnell, Patrick Flynn of Utah, future OSU Beaver Cadyn Grenier and Tyler Davis of Northwest Nazerene.
