Kelowna's Nat Hamby of UCD
Medford slugger Dan Mayer of University of the Pacific blasted three home runs this past week and went 12-for-26 with 10 runs scored, 2 doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs. Mayer increased his league-leading HR total to 11 as the Rogues won two series, at Klamath Falls and vs. Bellingham at home, to stay in the WCL wild card race at 19-23. His offensive exploits earned the junior-to-be outfielder from Downers Grove, Ilinois WCL co-Player of the Week honors with Kelowna's Nat Hamby for the week of July 20-26.
Hamby, a senior-to-be at UC Davis, twirled a complete game shutout July 22 at Walla Walla and struck out 10 Sweets. Hamby did not walk a batter while allowing six hits in the Falcons' 2-0 road win. Hamby is 2-0 this summer with a 2.64 ERA over 5 starts.
Mayer ranks third in the WCL in RBIs with 35 and his .333 batting average is seventh-best in the league. Mayer saw limited duty this past spring at Pacific as a sophomore.
Hamby made 22 appearances this past spring for UC Davis as a junior. He was stellar in relief registering 3 saves and posting a 2.03 ERA over 16 relief appearances while striking out 28 over 31 innings of work out of the bullpen.
