Bryson LeBlanc Named Head Coach

09/22/2009 9:29 PM - Longview-Kelso, Washington: Tuesday, September, 22, 2009: Press Release: Bryson LeBlanc has been named the first ever Head Coach of the Cowlitz Black Bears. LeBlanc serves as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Oregon baseball program, under legendary coach George Horton.

“He’s energetic, knows the game, and has the contacts to bring top college players to the Black Bears,” said Cowlitz general manager Grant Wilson in making the announcement. “Our fans are going to love Bryson.”

LeBlanc helped usher in a new era of baseball at the University of Oregon, which reinstated its baseball program in 2008. He coached first base for the Ducks as Oregon played its first season in 28 years. His work on the Oregon staff includes in-game responsibility for outfielders, and directing the program’s baseball camps.

A graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Biological Science, LeBlanc played baseball for Coach Tim Jamieson and the Tigers for two seasons. As a senior he helped Missouri reach the Super Regionals for the first time in school history. LeBlanc earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Education/Exercise & Sports Science with an emphasis in Sports Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri.

The new WCL club will play 30 home games throughout the summer, starting next June, at Story Field. Ticket deposits for the 2010 season are now being taken. A $20 refundable per seat deposit puts fans in line to select season ticket seat locations. Ticket deposit forms are available at the team’s temporary website www.westcoastleague.com/cowlitz.

The Black Bears are members of the West Coast League, an eight-team, professional-like wood-bat summer college league. The WCL features pro prospects from major conferences across the country. More than 100 WCL alums are playing affiliated professional baseball this season, and 13 ex-WCL stars have played in the big leagues this season.
