The West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by Commissioner Rob Neyer, are Portland Pickles infielder Jack Metcho (University of the Pacific) and Kamloops NorthPaws right-hander Griffin Almond (Connors State).
Last week, Metcho went 12 for 26 while driving in nine runs and scoring nine runs for the Pickles. Sizzling hot to start this 2023 season, the rising sophomore currently leads the League in hits (16) and is tied for the RBI lead (11). In his freshman campaign this spring with Pacific (Stockton, Cal.), he played in 45 games, including 38 starts.
Friday night against the defending WCL champion Corvallis Knights, Almond dazzled the home crowd at Norbrock Stadium, propelling the NorthPaws to their first win of the season with six shutout innings, allowing just two hits. A native of Thornbury, Ontario, Almond made five starts this spring during his sophomore season at Connors State College (Oklahoma).
