The East All-Stars beat the West All-Stars 4-1 on a beautiful evening in Bellingham, Washington before a crowd of 1,092 at Joe Martin Field. WCCBL advisory board member Carl Moesche of the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau announced All-Star co-MVPs and a top prospect as picked by the over 10 major league scouts in attendance.

Wenatchee’s Ryan Davis of Vanderbilt University and Kitsap’s Brandon Kuykendall of Bendictine College were named the game’s co-MVPs. Davis hit .306 (38 for 123) this past spring for the SEC Champion Commodores and Kuykendall is leading the WCCBL in hitting with a .349 average and has 2 HR and 14 RBI for the West leading BlueJackets. Both Davis and Kuykendall went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Matt Way of the Corvallis Knights was named the game’s top prospect by the scouts. The junior-to be southpaw from Washington State University tossed a scoreless inning and struckout two batters. Way is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA on the WCCBL season.

The league’s All-Star event kicked-off Monday night with a dinner cruise of the San Juan Islands. The boat ride took off from gorgeous Bellingham bay and was enjoyed by the All-Stars, Commissioner Dietz, MLB scouts and the league’s owners, management and coaches.

Commissioner Jim Dietz threw out the first pitch.

The East was managed by Gabe Boruff of the Moses Lake Pirates and the West was skippered by Matt Acker of Kitsap.

AJ Proszek of the Spokane RiverHawks was the game’s winning pitcher. The junior-to be at Gonzaga tossed two scoreless innings for the East.

Bellingham native Josh Fish of the Moses Lake Pirates started for the East. The league’s ERA leader Paul Applebee of the host Bellingham Bells started for the West. The frosh southpaw from UC Riverside is 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA. He pitched a scoreless first.

Mike Koons of the Corvallis Knights signed with the Houston Astros the day of the All-Star Game. The right-hander from San Diego State was replaced by Kitsap’s Joe Hagen. Hawkins Gebbers of Wenatchee and Brian Boyd of Bellingham missed the All-Star game due to injury and were replaced by Wenatchee’s Vinnie Catricala of University of Hawaii and Bend’s DJ Gentile of Cal Poly SLO.

Catcher Kyle Holloway of Bellingham collected the game’s only extra-base hit with a double in the ninth for the West.

Tuesday’s showcase featured 4 stolen bases including one by Kelowna’s Ryan Lee of Cal Poly who leads the WCCBL in steals with 18.

Left-handed hitting slugger Dillon Baird of Wenatchee won the pre-game Homerun Derby. Baird of Yavapai College hit 5 in the first round.
