2008 first-team All-West Coast League third baseman Andrew Darr of Arkansas delivered his biggest game when it mattered most as the University of Arkansas came from behind twice against host Florida State to beat the Seminoles 9-8 on Saturday to earn a berth in the 2009 College World Series.
Darr, who starred for the Bend Elks last summer, went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Hogs the victory and two-game sweep of FSU.
The senior from Gilbert, Arizona took full advantage of his start in rightfield to help write history for the Omaha bound Hogs from the SEC.
Arkansas was down 5-1 when Darr smashed a solo home run in the seventh starting a five-run rally to put Arkansas up 6-5 and behind 8-7 when Andrew delivered his game-winning two-run double in the ninth.
Darr hit .330 with 8 doubles, 2 home runs and 12 RBI for Bend last season (112 at bats). This spring, Andrew was hitting .215 with 3 HR and 14 RBI coming into Saturday’s second Super Regional game in Tallahasse, Florida.
