Several ex-WCLers were named to season-ending all-conference teams in the Pac-12, Big West and WCC. And five WCL alums were named to Louisville Slugger All-America teams as announced by Collegiate Baseball News yesterday including first-team selection Thomas Eshelman of Cal State Fullerton (Klamath Falls Gems, 2012), second-team pick Jimmie Sherfy of Oregon (Corvallis Knights, 2011); and third-team selections Matt Boyd of Oregon State (Corvallis Knights, 2010), Taylor Sparks of UC Irvine (Wenatchee AppleSox, 2012) and Marco Gonzales of Gonzaga (Wenatchee AppleSox, 2010).

Eshelman led #3-ranked Cal State Fullerton (48-8) to a Big West title as the frosh went 11-2 with a 1.63 ERA and only walked an astounding 2 batters over 99 2/3 innings pitched while striking out 71. Thomas was as equally impressive this past summer pitching for Klamath Falls as Eshelman posted a miniscule 0.61 ERA and went 5-0 with 5 saves to earn second-team All-WCL honors.

Like Eshelman, Sherfy (2-0, 1.67, 20 saves), pictured closing for the Ducks, and Boyd (10-3, 2.03) are participating in the postseason as Fullerton, Oregon and Oregon State are all hosting NCAA Regionals (May 31-June 3).

Taylor Sparks (.360, 10, 50) was named co-Big West Player of the Year while Eshelman took home Big West Freshman of the Year honors.

Two-way star Marco Gonzales (7-3, 2.80) was named co-WCC Player of the Year.

Eight WCL alums were named All-Pac-12 and ex-AppleSox Pat Valaika of UCLA (Wenatchee, 2011) earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
