The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Brian Sloan, are Washington State freshman infielder Dillon Plew of the Yakima Valley Pippins and Auburn incoming frosh pitcher Jack Owen of the Victoria HarbourCats for the week of June 26-July 2.
Owen tossed 7 shutout innings vs. WCL South first-half champion Corvallis at OSU’s Goss Stadium on Wednesday, June 28 to earn the win. The lefty only allowed 2 hits while striking out 8 in the HarbourCats 5-0 road victory. Owen is 2-0 on the summer with a 0.98 ERA. He’s registered 20 strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitched.
Plew went 13-for-27 (.481) for the week with 8 runs scored, 3 stolen bases, a double, a homer and 10 RBI.
This past spring, Plew hit .293 over 184 at bats with two homers and 14 RBIs for the Cougars.
