Michael Frias, Portland

The West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league commissioner Rob Neyer, are Tacoma CC sophomore-to-be outfielder Justin VanDeBrake of the Port Angeles Lefties and UC Irvine redshirt freshman-to-be pitcher Michael Frias of the Portland Pickles for the week of July 23-29.

Justin VanDeBrake went 14-for-25 with 7 runs, 2 stolen bases, 2 doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs for the Lefties. For the summer, VanDeBrake is hitting .325 with 6 doubles and 7 stolen bases.

This past spring as a frosh, VanDeBrake hit .369 with 10 doubles, 12 stolen bases, 4 homers and 30 RBIs for Tacoma CC; earning first-team all-NWAC West Region honors.

UC Irvine’s Michale Frias made two appearances including a start for the Pickles, who feature the league’s top mark with a 33-15 record. Frias tossed a combined 8 innings of scoreless baseball against playoff contender Corvallis and post-season bound Bellingham; both 4-inning stints. He earned a win in relief vs. the Bells and allowed only 4 hits and walked three while striking out 9 for the week.

For the summer, Frias is 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA and has logged 23.2 innings while walking only 5 and striking out 28.
