Sawyer Carroll

Sawyer Carroll of #21 ranked University of Kentucky (22-4) is one of several WCCBL alums excelling in power conferences like the SEC, Pac-10 and Big West. Sawyer Carroll is a serious candidate for the 2008 Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award. The senior outfielder/first baseman from Henryetta, Oklahoma is hitting .457 with 9 doubles, 8 HR and 38 RBI for the Wildcats. Earlier this spring, Carroll was named SEC Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week (March 5, 2008). With Kelowna in 2006, Carroll made the East All-Star team. The sweet-swinging left-handed slugger was the East’s starting shortstop and went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI in the League’s inaugural All-Star game. That summer, Carroll hit .275 with 9 stolen bases and 17 RBI for the Falcoms. Kentucky also features another Falcons alumnus, pitcher James Paxton. The sophomore southpaw pitched for Kelowna last summer. This spring, Paxton is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA. He’s made 7 appearances, 3 starts and struck out 24 over 21 innings pitched.

PAC-10

Daniel Wolford of University of California, Berkeley (18-5) has been dominating in relief for the #7 ranked Golden Bears. Wolford’s 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA over 11 appearances and has struck out 33 over 24 2/3 innings pitched. Wolford pitched last summer for the WCCBL champion Moses Lake Pirates and was named first-team All-WCCBL (relief pitcher). Dillion Baird of University of Arizona (13-7) leads the #18 ranked Wildcats in at bats with 84 and is hitting .357 with 5 HR and 21 RBI. The junior slugger won the 2007 WCCBL All-Star game Homerun Derby and was named second-team All-WCCBL at first base for the Wenatchee AppleSox. Drew George leads the defending national champion Oregon State Beavers (13-8) in hitting. The senior third baseman from Lebanon, Oregon is batting .415 with 2 HR and 20 RBI. George earned second-team All-WCCBL honors last summer for the Bend Elks. 2006 WCCBL Pitcher of the Year Ross Humes of Washington State University (16-8) has posted a team low 1.73 ERA and leads the Cougars in saves with 4. The junior southpaw pitched the past two summers for the Kitsap BlueJackets. Jim Murphy leads the Cougs in homeruns with 8 and is hitting .349 with 24 RBI. The senior first baseman from Kirkland, Washington earned first-team All-WCCBL honors last summer with the Corvallis Knights. Junior pitchers Jordan Merry and Jason Erickson of University of Washington (17-8) are emerging as the Huskies top two starters. Merry is 3-0 with a 1.21 ERA and has struck out 31 over 29 2/3 innings pitched. Erickson is 3-1 with a 2.16 ERA. Merry pitched last summer with the Bend Elks and Erickson pitched for the Elks in 2006. Tommy Milone of USC (11-14) has posted a team low 2.79 ERA for the Trojans. SC’s junior ace is 3-2 over 6 starts and has struck out 38 over 36 1/3 innings pitched. As a member of the Wenatchee AppleSox, the southpaw was a second-team All-WCCBL selection in 2006.

BIG WEST

Daniel Bibona of UC Irvine (19-3) pitched the #5 ranked Anteaters to a series win vs. Cal Poly SLO this past Sunday earning his fourth victory as a starter. Bibona is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA over 8 appearances and 5 starts. The sophomore southpaw has struck out 38 over 33 1/3 innings pitched. Bibona pitched last summer for the Corvallis Knights.

MOUNTAIN WEST

JR Murphy of San Diego State (17-10) leads the Aztecs in wins with 4. The senior pitcher from Truckee, California is 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA. Murphy was first-team All-WCCBL last summer for the Corvallis Knights. Brian Budrow of University of Utah (10-12) is 4-1 with a team low 1.93 ERA. Budrow has struck out 43 over 37 1/3 innings pitched and six starts for the Utes. Budrow pitched for the Bend Elks the past two summers.

WCC

Marcus McKimmy of Gonzaga (15-10) leads the Bulldogs in hitting with a .389 average and is tied for the Zags lead in RBI with 29. The senior outfielder was recently named WCC Player of the Week and West Region Player of the Week (March 17-23). McKimmy played for the Wenatchee AppleSox in 2006. Mark Triolo of University of Portland (14-13) leads the Pilots in wins with 4. The junior right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA over 6 starts. Triolo pitched last summer for the Bellingham Bells.

WAC

Kyle Howe of University of Nevada, Reno (13-12) is 3-0 with a team low 2.86 ERA. The senior from Poulsbo, Washington pitched the last three summers for the Kitsap BlueJackets and was named first-team All-WCCBL last summer. Howe’s teammate Jason Rodriguez leads the Wolfpack in doubles with 10 and homeruns with 6. The senior third baseman is hitting .385 with 26 RBI. Rodriguez played with the Knights in 2005.
