WCCBL president Ken Wilson announces East and West All-Star teams

WCCBL president Ken Wilson announced the league’s 2008 All-Star teams as voted on by East and West coaches. The East team, to be coached by 7th-year skipper Ed Knaggs of Wenatchee, features eight AppleSox including ace pitcher Steve Ames of Columbia Basin College. The sophomore right-hander from Vancouver, Washington leads the league in strikeouts with 40 and is tied for the league lead in wins with 5.

The West All-Star team, to be coached by rookie manager Brooke Knight of Corvallis, features eight selections from the Knights including junior-to be Logan Lotti at Oregon State. The outfielder from Chico, California is tied for the league lead in total bases with 48.

The league’s third annual All-Star event sponsored by Nike is scheduled for July 21-22 in Moses Lake, Washington. The WCCBL All-Star game is Tuesday, July 22 at Larson Field. Game time is 7:30 pm (gates will open early). Pre-game, fans are welcome to enjoy CAP’T JOE’S BBQ and watch batting practice, which will be followed by a homerun derby featuring a slugger from each team.
