WCL Alum Hoskins Sets MLB Homer Record

West Coast League alum Rhys Hoskins of the Philadelphia Phillies homered for the 11th time in his 18th big league game Sunday afternoon vs. MLB defending champion Chicago at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies beat the Cubs 6-3 behind the power of Hoskins and starting pitching of former Victoria HarbourCats pitcher Nick Pivetta, who improved his rookie record to 5-9. The WCL alum tossed 5 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out 5.

Hoskins played for the Kitsap BlueJackets (now the Port Angeles Lefties) in 2012 where he hit .237 with 3 homers over 76 at bats following his freshman season at Sacramento State.

The hot-hitting Hoskins led off the eighth with a drive to left-center to give him 11 home runs in his first 18 games over 64 at-bats, becoming the fastest in major league history to reach 11 homers. He also started a triple play.
