WCL Alums Called Up

On Monday, April 11, rookie Texas Rangers catcher Brett Nicholas made his big league debut in the Rangers 7-3 win vs. Seattle at Safeco Field. Nicholas starred for the Kelowna Falcons in 2008 where he earned first-team all-WCL honors as a first baseman following his frosh spring at Gonzaga. Nicholas would later transfer to University of Missouri and was drafted in the 6th round of the 2010 MLB draft by Texas.

Southpaw Greg Mahle was called up yesterday by the Los Angeles Angels. Mahle starred for the Corvallis Knights in 2012 where he also earned first-team all-WCL honors (as a utility man). A rising star at UC Santa Barbara, Mahle finished his freshman campaign playing both ways for the Knights. He tossed a no-hitter on Friday, August 3 while going 4-for-5 at bat vs. Cowlitz in the Knights 14-0 home win. Greg was selected by the Halos in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB draft.
