PORTLAND, Ore. — With only six regular-season dates left on the schedule, much of the West Coast League’s playoff picture is still wide open heading into this final weekend.

Things are especially exciting in the North Division, where the WCL Game of the Week features two direct rivals on the same field. The Kelowna Falcons (25-23) are hosting the Edmonton Riverhawks (26-22), with both teams chasing Wild Card slots and separated by just one game in the standings.

But the Riverhawks aren’t the only team the Falcons are pursuing. Also at 26-22: both Vancouver Island teams, the Victoria HarbourCats and Nanaimo NightOwls. The HarbourCats finish their season with six road games against front-running Wenatchee and Bellingham, while the NightOwls host the Port Angeles Lefties and Kamloops NorthPaws to close their campaign. Bellingham has nearly clinched a playoff spot, but the other four contenders are fighting for the remaining two North postseason berths, which means every game this weekend counts, and the drama is likely to continue into the four teams’ season-ending series that begin Monday.

Tonight in Kelowna, longtime journalist and broadcaster Wayne Moore has the call in the broadcast booth, and he’ll be joined in the pregame show, beginning at 6:15 Pacific Time, by Falcons Head Coach and 16-year MLB veteran Gregg Zaun, who will discuss his first season in the WCL and his team’s postseason push.

“This season the Falcons have thrived in just about every way that matters,” said WCL Commissioner Rob Neyer. “They’re playing better baseball, their attendance is way up, and their new livestream is immensely enjoyable. This summer we’ve seen a full-organization turnaround, not just a hot streak.”

Also this weekend on WCL Live, the league’s livestreaming platform, the Walla Walla Sweets will be trying to clinch the South’s second postseason slot – the Ridgefield Raptors grabbed the first with their first-half title last month – while the Corvallis Knights and Portland Pickles will be fighting to solidify their holds on the two Wild Cards.
