Wenatchee wins Championship Series. AppleSox are WCCBL champions

The Wenatchee AppleSox recorded their second straight WCCBL championship series late-inning come from behind victory to beat the Bellingham Bells 5-2 and sweep the league’s inaugural three-game championship series 2 games to 0. With the Bells leading 2-1 going to the bottom of the sixth, Steve Marquardt, a sophomore-to be at Columbia Basin College, delivered a bases loaded, bases clearing, game-winning three-run double. That was all Elliott Cribby, a junior-to be at University of Washington, and closer Steve Martlaro of University of Southern California would need as Cribby tossed 7 solid innings to earn the 5-2 win and Martlaro threw the final two innings to record the series ending save.

Wenatchee finished the season with the WCCBL’s best record at 29-7 and won the league championship by sweeping the Bells in two games.
