The West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league commissioner Rob Neyer, are UC San Diego senior-to-be outfielder Zander Clarke of the Portland Pickles and Campbellsville senior-to-be pitcher Mikey Hooper of the Bend Elks for the week of June 25-July 1.
Clarke went 15-for-26 (.577) with 7 runs scored, 3 stolen bases, 3 doubles, 4 home runs and 16 RBIs for the South’s first-place club, the Portland Pickles. For the summer, Clarke is hitting .458 with 6 doubles, 4 homers and 19 RBIs.
This past spring as a junior, Clarke earned NCAA DII All-American honors as he hit .385 with 15 doubles, 18 home runs and 86 RBIs for the Tritons.
Clarke played his first two springs at UCLA before transferring to UC San Diego.
Hooper tossed 7 shutout innings at Wenatchee on June 28th to earn the win, as the Elks topped the Sox 5-0. Mikey allowed only two hits while walking none and striking out 5.
This summer for Bend, Hooper is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA.
As a junior at Campbellsville, Hooper made 17 relief appearances and went 3-3 with a 7.54 ERA.
