PORTLAND, Ore. – Monday, West Coast League Commissioner Rob Neyer announced the League’s Executive of the Year, Broadcaster of the Year, and Scorekeeper of the Year.
The WCL Board of Directors voted Cody Miller, general manager and director of the Walla Walla Sweets, as Executive of the Year.
Miller took over as Sweets director following the 2025 season. Under his leadership this summer, Walla Walla tied for the best record in the South Division at 31-23 and reached the postseason for the first time since 2019.
“Cody’s a great example of what we love to see in our league: someone who’s worked his way up through the organization and understands both the game and the business from the ground floor,” Neyer said. “Getting Walla Walla back to the postseason for the first time in seven years, in his first year heading the organization, speaks for itself.”
Miller’s path to the front office ran through nearly every level of the organization. A Twinsburg, Ohio, native who moved to Seattle in 2008, he interned with the Sweets in 2017, became director of sales and operations in 2018, and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2019, where he also oversaw food and beverage operations. He was named general manager that November.
The League Office selects Al Coates of the Edmonton Riverhawks as the Broadcaster of the Year. Coates has been a fixture behind the mic in Edmonton since 1980, a run that includes a long stint calling games for the Triple-A Edmonton Trappers, who, like the Riverhawks now, called RE/MAX Field home.
“Al’s been the Voice of Baseball in Edmonton for parts of five decades now, going back to the Trappers days,” Neyer said. “That kind of continuity is rare in our sport, and Riverhawks fans and the entire West Coast League are lucky to have him.”
Cooper Cripe of the Marion Berries earns the Scorekeeper of the Year honor from WCL Data Coordinator Stephen Gall.
“Cooper did a terrific job this summer for Marion, his first in this role,” Gall said. “It’s our goal to ensure that scorers are using the resources provided, asking for help when needed, and improving throughout the summer. Cooper did all of those things quite well, and by season’s end was among our most reliable and accurate official scorers.”
