Nyles Nygaard, Cowlitz

The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by interim league president Tony Bonacci, are Western Oregon junior first baseman Nyles Nygaard of the Cowlitz Black Bears and University of British Columbia first-year pitcher Adam McKillican of the Victoria HarbourCats for the week of June 19-25.

Nygaard went 8-for-12 with 7 runs scored, 3 HBP, 2 doubles, a homer and 4 RBI for the surging Black Bears. He is hitting .480 for the season (25 at bats).

This past spring, Nyles – a senior-to-be – hit. 317 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs and 33 RBI.

McKillican earned two wins this past week. In two starts, McKillican tossed 13.2 innings and allowed no runs while walking only 1 and striking out 7. He earned home victories vs. Port Angeles (June 19) and Walla Walla (June 24), both 6-1 scores. This summer, the right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.68 ERA. This is his second Pitcher of the Week honor this season.

For the Thunderbirds, in his first year, McKillican went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA over 28.1 innings pitched.
