Sweets Chris Lincoln Named BA Top Prospect

Perfect Game named Pepperdine's Jordan Qsar the WCL's Top Prospect for 2017

This past Wednesday, Baseball America's Pat Hickey released his 2017 top WCL prospect list. UC Santa Barbara's Chris Lincoln of the Walla Walla Sweets was rated the West Coast League's top prospect. The sophomore-to-be flashed electric stuff this past summer as he struck out 36 over 33.1 innings pitched.

Lincoln has the size and stuff that projects well moving forward. He's 6-foot-4, 175 pounds and showed a three-pitch mix that left some raving about the native of Moreno Valley, Calif. "He was 91-93, touching 94," said one league manager. "He has the kind of curveball that makes righthanded hitters jump out of the box and a changeup that made our lefties miss by 8-12 inches. I think the most impressive part is how easy it looked; very smooth." Lincoln had a good but not great summer with a 4.05 ERA and 36 strikeouts to 18 walks in 33.1 innings. He was a 13th-round pick by Toronto last summer and is clearly on radars. But there are some inconsistencies that need to be fixed before he starts contributing out of the Gauchos’ rotation. Lincoln had an ERA just south of five as a freshman this spring. - BASEBALL AMERICA

Last Thursday, Perfect Game announced its 2017 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate All-Americans. Six West Coast Leaguers were chosen. Only the Cape Cod League and Northwoods League had more selections.

West Coast League MVP Chase Illig of Bellingham, a redshirt sophomore-to-be catcher at West Virginia, was named to the second team as was Kelowna Falcons sweet swinging, left-handed hitting shortstop Taylor Wright, who will be a junior infielder at Maryland, and crafty incoming freshman Jack Owen of Auburn who earned WCL Pitcher of the Year honors hurling for Victoria.

Yakima Valley's closer Connor White of University of Portland, a junior-to-be right-hander, was named to the third team and first-team all-WCL outfielder Jordan Qsar was a honorable mention pick.

Qsar was named Perfect Game's top WCL prospect and was also named as one of D1BASEBALL.com's top prospects. D1BASEBALL.com's listing was released on Aug. 8, 2107 by Kendall Rogers. Perfect Game's complete prospect listing is expected to be released early next week.
